GEWOBA Tätigkeitsbericht

Design-Statement:

As the largest real estate company in the free Hanseatic city of Bremen, GEWOBA shapes modern communities through innovative new construction projects. The completion of over 400 apartments in 2019 alone marks a milestone in the history of the company and the city alike. The activity report illustrates this achievement. Fashioned as a moving box, it sends a strong visual signal: GEWOBA has “said and done.”

IDEA:

Living space has been created. Moving boxes have been packed. People are moving in. Life is unfolding. GEWOBA has tackled its projects for the people of Bremen so that they may seize their moving boxes, move into their new homes and unpack their lives. This idea is brought to life by the activity report, as it appropriates the form and visual language of a moving box.

Form:

The brochure with green, open thread stitching is framed as a moving box by a sealed cover of corrugated cardboard. Opening the box, the reader dives into GEWOBA’s areas of activity, which unfolds in the visual world of “moving” through collages, bold graphics, notes, markings and material mix in a diversified and creative manner. In detail, surface structures of building material are used in illustrations of people and makers while handwritten notes in semi-transparent white marginally lend depth to the contents. Materials and colored pages bring variety and a breath of fresh air, whereas bold shapes delineate correlations and graphics.

Function:

The extraordinary appearance of the report allows its contents to be not merely read and viewed but experienced by the reader. Material and format facilitate a pleasant and well-structured reading experience. Bold graphics visualize complex correlations. Important information, such as the development of housing stock, are laid out concisely. Real estate and planning concepts are rendered comprehensible to the reader in collages. Compact checklists enable the reader to take in detailed information regarding the various projects at a glance.

Difference:

GEWOBA turns its back on the familiar, glossy image of the real estate business for the benefit of creativity and humanity. In the guise of a moving box, the activity report renders GEWOBA approachable and human. Design and presentation of the report establish a particular closeness to life. Not at all afraid of being unconventional, GEWOBA presents itself as an active maker of living space for broad segments of the population.

Impact:

The production process, starting with development in the climate-neutral agency all the way to the printing press, has been implemented in a completely climate neutral way. All materials originate from FSC-certified production and sustainable forestry. Inevitable CO2 emissions have been compensated.
